Following its mid-week, 3-0 victory over rival Harvard, the No. 8 Dartmouth women's hockey team continued its winning ways on its trip to Yale and Brown this weekend. The team overcome a recent scoring slump, trouncing Yale 5-2 on Friday night before smashing Brown 9-1 on Saturday.
A number of Big Green players enjoyed tremendous weekends, with Amanda Trunzo '11 scoring a hat trick in the game against Brown and Reagan Fischer '12 tallying three goals for the weekend. Sarah Parsons '10 and Kelly Foley '12 both added a goal in each game.
Trunzo said that it was a big weekend for the team, with two Ivy League victories.
"Overall, the team played well in both games," she said. "We finally got our offense going in the last period at both Yale and Brown, which allowed us to pull away for the wins."
Fischer said the Big Green wanted to carry its momentum from its victory over Harvard into the weekend.
"Yale and Brown were important Ivy League games for us, so we knew we needed to come out strong," she said.
The Big Green started strong against Yale, with Fischer scoring the opening goal for Dartmouth at just 4:34 into the first period for her fourth goal of the season. Moira Scanlon '12 and Foley were both credited with the assist.
Just over three minutes later Parsons would score to make it 2-0 for the Big Green, with Maggie Kennedy '09 and Trunzo racking up the assists.
Yale, however, would get on the board itself five minutes later, with Maggie Westfal squeezing a shot past Dartmouth goalie Carli Clemis '09 to make it a 2-1 game.

Fischer said after the game that the team was not quite at the level they would have liked to be against Yale.
"We got some crucial saves from Clemis when we needed them, and we played solid defense until we got our offense rolling in the third period," she said.
Saturday afternoon found the Dartmouth women's hockey team in Providence, R.I., and the Big Green wasted no time in opening up a punishing assault on the Brown goal.
Trunzo scored her first goal of the game just 51 seconds into the contest. Scanlon picked up her second assist of the weekend in the game-opening goal.
Defensively, Dartmouth kept up the pressure against Brown for the entire game. In the end, the Big Green had outshot its opponents 52-16, paving the way for a 9-1 Dartmouth shellacking of the Bears.
Dartmouth increased its lead over Brown to 2-0 at the halfway point of the first period, with Fischer scoring off an assist by Katie Horner '11 for her third goal of the weekend. Five minutes later, Bowman scored on the power play to give the Big Green a 3-0 lead.

An increasingly flustered Brown squad picked up six penalties in the final period.
Dartmouth increased its lead over Brown to 5-1 after Foley scored at 2:20 into the third period, with Sarah Toupal '10 picking up the assist.
The final four goals of the game for the Big Green all came on power play opportunities. Parsons made it a 6-1 game six minutes into the third period, and co-captain Sarah Newnam '09 scored exactly two minutes later to make it 7-1.
In the final six minutes of the game, Trunzo would score two extra-skater goals to pick up her first career hat trick. Trunzo picked up her second goal of the game at 14:10, with Bronson and Kennedy both bagging assists on the score.
Just over two minutes later, Trunzo would score again on an assist by Kennedy, bringing the final score in the Dartmouth trouncing of Brown to 9-1.
"Our game against Brown was a great team effort," Fischer said. "Each line contributed, and we had many team goals. It was also nice to get some goals on the power play, as that has been an area where we have been struggling lately. Overall, it was a great weekend for the team, and hopefully we can continue to move forward with our game on Tuesday night."
Dartmouth women's hockey will be in action again on Tuesday night, when it hosts ProvidenceCollege (12-8-2, 5-2-1 Hockey East) at 7 p.m. in Thompson Arena.
