The No. 7 Big Green (12-5-2, 9-3-2 ECAC Hockey) trampled over a Providence (11-9-2, 6-2-1 Hockey East) team that defeated the No. 8 University of New Hampshire 5-0 on Jan. 10.
Dartmouth travels to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats Friday night.
For the majority of the contest's first two periods, Dartmouth and Providence were locked in a tight struggle for control of the game.
Three times, Dartmouth went up by one goal on the visitors, only to have Providence even out the score again.
It was only in the final two minutes of the second period that Dartmouth shifted into a higher gear and put the game out of reach of the visiting squad.
The deciding lead came when a line put up two goals on the same shift, scoring twice in just 24 seconds.
Co-captain Shannon Bowman '09 said she was happy with the team's performance.
"It was a great team win for us, with the scoring coming from a number of different players," she said. "I think that it says a lot about our team and the depth that we have this year. Having a balanced offense like we showed Tuesday night is something that is very important, especially come postseason."
The Big Green enjoyed a fast start to the game, putting the puck into the net just three minutes into the opening period.
Sarah Parsons '10 deflected a Julia Bronson '09 shot past Providence goaltender Genevieve Lacasse to put Dartmouth up 1-0.
Just seconds after the goal, however, the Big Green found itself at a large disadvantage as Providence went on a 5-on-3 power play on overlapping Jenna Cunningham '10 and Sarah Newnam '09 penalties.
The Dartmouth defense rose to the occasion and effectively smothered any Providence scoring opportunities.
Dartmouth was not as effective on its second penalty kill try, with just under six minutes left in the opening period, as Providence tied the game 1-1 on a power-play goal.
Following the first intermission, the game's fireworks began. The two teams scored a combined six goals in the middle 20 minutes of the contest.
Dartmouth again took the lead, with Kelly Foley '12 scoring her first of two goals in the second period on a power-play opportunity.
Less than three minutes later, however, the Friars again tied the game.
This series of events would repeat itself again in the second half of the period, with Amanda Trunzo '11 scoring her team-leading 11th goal on a power-play opportunity and, minutes later, Providence retaliating to tie things up for the third time.
With less than three minutes left in the second period, though, Dartmouth began to pull away. In a punishing performance combining pure effort and execution, one of the Dartmouth lines scored twice in just a matter of seconds to crush the visitors' cause.
The game winner came with just under two minutes left in the second period as Foley scored her second goal of the period to put the Big Green ahead 4-3.
Dartmouth had barely finished its celebratory round of fist bumps when the puck was already back in the Providence net.
Reagan Fischer '12 took the puck down the ice with just the goalie in front of her and scored without even a single deke.
Sarah Toupal '10 picked up the assist on both of the goals.
The third period found Dartmouth playing cleanup, with the Big Green adding two more goals to put the icing on the cake.
Maggie Kennedy '09 and Marley McMillan '09 scored the final two goals for the Big Green to put the finishing touches on the 7-3 rout.
Carli Clemis '09 had another strong showing in goal, finishing with 23 saves for her 10th win of the season.
The Big Green returns to action Friday night with a visit to in-state rival the University of New Hampshire in a clash of two programs ranked in the top 10.
The next home game for the Dartmouth women will be on Friday, Feb. 6, when they battle the visiting Bears of Brown.
