For almost three years, I have listened to the stories and concerns of our community. Now I'd like to channel my experience and passion into a role of leadership -- to serve as SA President through accessibility, communication and transparency.
Accessibility
I will hold office hours in Food Court and Collis, attend as many campus events as possible, promote more SA-sponsored programming, advertise SA events and agendas regularly in The Dartmouth and work to increase student participation in Assembly.
Accessibility also pertains to posting course syllabi and book lists online and making sure that the course reviews continue to grow in numbers, effectiveness and validity. I would also like to expand the Readership Program by adding the Sunday New York Times.
Communication
I would like to create a Student Governance Council to bring various campus organizations together to create better programs, minimize fiscal overlaps and improve discussion within the Dartmouth community as a whole.
I will continue to promote expansion of social options, but I believe we must first look at advertising the positives and improving existing options. First, I would like to host an open house for all Coed, Fraternity and Sorority houses to expose students to the array of social opportunities available on this campus. Adding local houses and coeds, or giving organizations space is eventually necessary, but not before developing a process to ensure sustainable membership.
A long-term goal is to change the dining halls to make them more conducive to socializing. However, in the short-term opening up the lines of communication between campus groups will be key to my administration and to strengthening our community and to improving gender relations. Increased PANGEA events and eventual creation of a social interaction fund would improve the community. Simple initiatives to get people to sit down and talk to one another without any real agenda is a start to improving the community.
Transparency
I would like to make the Committee on Standards process more transparent by instating an education program for first-years during their Fall term.
To address sexual assault and reduce the likelihood of appearing before COS, I support the continued implementation of the sexual assault education program for Undergraduate Advisors and pledges in Greek organization.
I support the creation of a subcommittee of qualified individuals to look specifically at sexual assault and support a system in which COS and the Oranizational Adjudication Committee are reassessed every 3 to 5 years.
SA must promote a pro-keg alcohol policy that is clear, easily implemented, eco-friendly and cost efficient. The OAC process for alcohol policy violations must also be transparent so that students and organizations will be informed and prepared to go through it. I suggest a streamlined process of choosing between a dean or a peer adjudication committee.
