The Big Green ski team broke its undefeated streak that stretched back to the beginning of last season at the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association carnival at the University of Vermont last weekend.
Dartmouth finished third with 604 points behind Middlebury's 628 and UVM's 624 points.
Ida Sargent '11 continued her strong freshman season with a win in the 10K classic race and the freestyle race.
Dartmouth took the top three spots in the women's freestyle race with Elsa Sargent '08 taking second and Rosie Brennan '11 taking third.
In addition, Dakota Blackhorse von-Jess '08 won the men's freestyle race followed by a secondplace finish from Patrick O'Brien '10.
In the women's slalom race, Hayley Jones '10 was Dartmouth's top finisher coming in seventh place.
Francis Fortin-Houle '10 was Dartmouth's first finisher in the men's slalom event, finishing 10th.
The EISA carnival circuit resumes this weekend with Dartmouth's Winter Carnival at the Dartmouth Skiway.
Men's Hockey
Dartmouth men's hockey (8-11-2, 3-10-1 ECAC) dropped to last place in the ECAC this week following losses to Yale (6-4-4, 10-7-4 ECAC), which is ranked sixth nationally, and Brown (3-14-4, 3-8-4 ECAC). Brown has won only three of its last 18 games, two of which were over Dartmouth.
The Big Green will face off against ninth-ranked Resselaer (9-17-3, 4-9-2 EC AC) on Friday and fifth-ranked Union (12-9-4, 7-4-3) on Saturday.
In conference standings, Union leads Dartmouth by 10 points. In their last match-up, however, Dartmouth shut out Union 4-0.
Clarkson (15-9-2, 10-3-1 ECAC) continues to lead the league despite two non-conference losses to Colorado College. However, Cornell (11-7-3, 9-4-1 ECAC) has narrowed the gap to three points between first and second place in the confence.
Women's hockey
It will be a busy Winter Carnival for the Big Green women's hockey team this weekend as Rensselaer and Union come to Hanover for the last home stand of Dartmouth's regular season.
Dartmouth (11-7-4, 8-5-2 ECAC) will host Rensselaer (12-11-4, 5-8-3 ECAC) on Friday in a rematch of December's 6-4 victory for the Big Green. The Big Green will wear pink jerseys for Pink at the Rink night, an ECAC-sponsored event that supports cancer research. The jerseys will be sold following the game and proceeds will go the American Cancer Society.
Saturday is the team's annual Senior Night, when Dartmouth takes on Union (3-21-2, 0-14-2 ECAC). Seniors will be honored during the game for their contributions to the team throughout their careers at Dartmouth.
Neither team has ever defeated or tied Dartmouth, so the Big Green hopes to have a strong weekend.
Men's basketball
The Big Green's conference record has dropped to 1-3 on the road after last weekend's losses to Princeton (5-12, 2-0 Ivy) and Penn (7-12, 2-0 Ivy), which Dartmouth (8-10, 1-3 Ivy) suffered by a combined six points.
Yale (7-11, 1-3 Ivy), Harvard (6-14, 1-3 Ivy) and Columbia (8-11, 1-3 Ivy) are tied with the Big Green.
Dartmouth continues conference play this weekend with a game at Brown (10-8, 2-2 Ivy) on Friday followed by a match at Yale on Saturday.
If the Big Green can come away with a difficult road victory over the weekend, it will be in a good position relative to the other Ancient Eight squads.
Cornell (12-5, 4-0 Ivy), a conference leader, has two home games this weekend against Penn and Princeton, both undefeated in league play, after ending last weekend with an impressive 3-0 mark.
Women's basketball
The Dartmouth women's basketball team (6-12, 3-1 Ivy) finished a weekend home sweep of Princeton (4-15, 1-2 Ivy) and Penn (3-15, 0-3 Ivy) this past week, surging ahead to the top of Ivy League standings. The Big Green came from behind in both games to seize the wins.
Brittney Smith '11 was honored as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week during her first Ivy weekend. Smith had an impressive week, posting back-to-back double-doubles in the two Ivy games and averaging 15 points and 11.5 rebounds, including 5.5 offensive rebounds per game.
The Big Green is now tied with Cornell (11-6, 3-1 Ivy), Harvard (10-8, 3-1 Ivy) and Yale (5-12, 3-1 Ivy) at the head of the Ancient Eight. Columbia (5-13, 2-2 Ivy) and Princeton are in the middle of the conference standings, while Penn and Brown (1-17, 0-4 Ivy) are both winless in Ivy play and round out the bottom of the league's standings.
Dartmouth continues its home stand this weekend, welcoming Brown on Friday and Yale on Saturday. The other noteworthy game this weekend is Yale's visit to Harvard, a battle between current league leaders.
Women's squash
The Dartmouth women's squash team, which recently moved up to the No. 6 spot in national play, faces No. 1 Penn, No. 2 Princeton and Middlebury this weekend.
"Penn has always been one of our rivals," co-captain Christie Alexander '08 said. "But their strength in recruiting over the past few years is really starting to manifest. Both of our matches will undoubtedly be very difficult."
In playing the top two teams in the country, the Big Green women will certainly have a tough weekend.
The lineup for the Howe Cup, however, is already set, putting the Dartmouth squad in the A draw. The tournament will be played next weekend at Princeton.
Track and Field
Coming off of impressive individual performances at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic, the Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams will compete in two meets this weekend.
The meets will take place in the Boston area, and the main event will be the Valentine's Invitational where the Big Green's top runners will run against some of the nation's best track and field squads.
Some of Dartmouth's runners will also be competing in a meet against Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.
The team is entering the final strech of the season and, with only a few weeks remaining until the Heptagonal championships, this is a time for the runners to show the coaches their best performances.
These meets are some of the few last opportunities for the Big Green athletes to compete before their coaches begin to solely focus on the Ivy Heptagonal, which will take place at the beginning of March.
