To the Editor:
I would like to commend Alyssa Robins '08 and Sarah Bankoff '08 for their exemplary leadership through these trying times as president and vice president of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
They have in word and deed contributed not only to the stature and benefit of their sisterhood, but they have elevated the discussion from our immediate needs to help educate us all about the greater issues regarding the promotion of parity between male- and female-dominated social spaces on campus.
We, the Beta at Dartmouth Trustees, look forward to assisting in every way possible, including the possibilities of using 6 Webster Avenue for subsequent rush (should construction allow) and finding other ways to partner in the years ahead.
I am mindful of the Greeks Speak conference that occurred last Sunday to discuss issues in a positive and solution-based manner.
It would be wonderful if we could together apply the conference's consensus-based conclusions to help provide model organizations for the Dartmouth community.
As you know, we will be holding an open forum on January 31. We intend to not only articulate our aspirations, but to listen to everyone else's as well. We welcome Alyssa's and Sarah's presence and input along with their sisterhood's as we all move forward together.
As an aside: I have to wonder about all that real estate just north of Webster Avenue occupied by the Choates.
There has been talk for so long about taking them down. I lived in Cohen Hall for two years and would gladly thrust the detonator plunger should they eventually be razed to create space for sororities.
