Beta-Vision Without Depth Perception

To the Editor:

I found myself disappointed that Alpha Xi Delta would no longer be able to occupy its physical plant. Its members have done a superb job of establishing the house as a permanent fixture in the Dartmouth community. However, I cannot help but feel even more displeased with the public reaction set forth by certain members of AZD.

So far, I have seen nothing but smear tactics and uncontrollable sensationalism. I find myself increasingly put off by their cause with every baseless accusation of corruption and misogynistic rhetoric. Future Beta classes would be filled by new students, not the undesirable "bullies" of the past as some believe.

Re-establishing an old fraternity while moving (not eliminating) a sorority will cause no change in gender social-dynamics because females and males have not found it pertinent to unify their resources.

Some houses say that more sororities will mean more chances for women as if their own houses have done enough to accomplish this goal; with the exception to a few, AZD hasn't.

"Renting" is a temporary living agreement. Knowing that they took on all the risks involved in leasing property, how can they expect to fault anyone except themselves when these risks do happen?

Although I find the timing of such a request unbecoming and disrespectful, the house has always belonged to Beta Theta Pi.

As long as they have not violated the terms of the lease, no one should argue that they are not entitled to do with it as they see fit, including moving back in.

The only people to blame for this are the sisters of AZD, who are now facing the consequences of poor house leadership and decision-making that happened years ago. Start acting like sisters of the respectable house that you belong to because throwing a temper-tantrum and slinging mud are no ways to maturely accomplish your goals.
