A Lesson From The French

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to Zak Moore's article yesterday ("Republi-Can," Jan. 15).

A quick check at the U.S. Senate website shows Joe Lieberman as an Independent from Connecticut; he had lost the Democratic primary there, hence the "right" to run as a Democrat during the last senatorial election.

Nevertheless, we can certainly dream of the next occupant of the White House being a truly bipartisan president like Sarkozy, the current French president who wasted no time in naming renowned Socialists (i.e. from the "opposition") to top posts in his government and beyond.

I say "beyond" because he also nominated Dominique Strauss-Kahn to head the International Monetary Fund, a decision that caused the whole EU to be euphoric.

Whatever one might say about Sarkozy, I certainly appreciate his retort when critized for naming Socialists to top posts: "I'm not asking them to switch parties, only to serve our country."
