Parkhurst is not the authority on information

To the Editor:

I read College President James Wright's e-mail to the campus ("Wright pledges to 'correct the record' in trustee race," Mar. 2) and was predictably nonplussed, except for one sentence in the trustee election portion, "When campaigning becomes inflamed over topics of debated authenticity, the President will 'correct the record.'" Apparently, only the Office of the President has access to correct information; the rest of us must be inherently wrong and unable to call upon a correct record to support our arguments because, unfortunately, we're not the president.

The sentence reads like a heavy-handed warning of censorship to come -- especially from a president whose administration repeatedly claimed neutrality concerning the defeated Alumni Governance Task Force Constitution, while he personally endorsed it in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
