The Review is not driving the impeachment of Andreadis

To the Editor:

Student Assembly President Tim Andreadis '07 noted that a "substantial" number of the students who attended recent Student Assembly meetings were staffers of The Dartmouth Review, and then went on to imply that the Review was a driving force behind the impeachment movement ("Work Together to Reform SA," Jan. 18). Whether eight or nine students out of 80-some in attendance are "substantial" is rather subjective, but his implication that The Review is pushing hard for his removal is patently false. Even Andrew Seal '07 on the Little Green Blog confirmed that The Review is not behind the impeachment movement -- though I'm sure some staffers are sympathetic to the idea. I find the whole matter incredibly petty. I harbor neither animosity nor fondness for either Andreadis or former Academic Affairs Committee Chair Adam Shpeen '07.

Andreadis' finger-pointing, however, is symptomatic of the ignoble approach that has characterized his involvement in the whole affair. Namely, he has chosen to vilify those against him, rather than face any accusations (regardless of their merit) head-on. Should push come to shove, he has made no secret of the fact that he intends to spin this dilatory matter into Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity, the Review and bigots versus the first openly gay Assembly president.

If Andreadis wants to continue drawing attention to racism, sexism and homophobia at Dartmouth, he should not shirk accountability for his words and actions. I hope that the end result of this matter is that Andreadis and his administration are motivated to produce some tangible results, rather than combative and polarizing rhetoric (and yes, I appreciate the irony here).
