No SA plan to abolish the Greek system

To the Editor:

I usually have no qualms with The Dartmouth, but I cannot believe that the newspaper published a story about an unfinished Assembly document ("Assembly paper calls for end to Greek Life," Jan. 19). Student Assembly is certainly not trying to abolish the Greek system, and I do not know of anyone (with the exception of former Secretary David Nachman '09) who has seen or discussed this document.

No such thing ever came up in Executive Board meetings this term and if it had, there would not be a call to end Greek life considering at least eight of the members are in Greek houses. At most, certain Executive Board members might hold strong negative opinions on Greek life and might call for an examination and change, but certainly not an abolishment or dissolution of the fraternities and sororities.

Every system requires change and examination in time including the Assembly, and maybe it is time for The D to start holding itself to higher standards and to a critical examination. That article was clearly not for print and someone essentially stole it or hacked on to an Assembly computer and unethically sent it. I just hope that our former secretary did not leak this to the newspaper. Where is The D's journalistic integrity?
