To the Editor:
In "The Economics of Protest" (May 1), Daniel Linsalata '07 rails against students who "cut class and waste generous donations" by alumni.
Ah, Linsalata, you've noticed a single tree but forgotten about the forest! Alumni have selflessly given much to Dartmouth. But illegal immigrants have given much to the United States. My favorite pinko, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board Alan Greenspan, famously told Congress, "Even undocumented workers -- commonly referred to as 'illegal' -- contribute more than their fair share to our great country."
You say that we wouldn't be at this college without the donations of alumni. I say that I wouldn't even be in this country if it weren't for illegal immigration. I expect many Dartmouth students feel the same way. True, we owe the alumni a great debt. But those of us who protest for immigration reform are repaying an even larger debt.
