As The Dartmouth correctly reported on May 22, the Alumni Council has voted unanimously to endorse the new constitution ("Alumni Council endorses constitution"). So did the council's Young Alumni Committee, which I chair.
Throughout the past school year, The Dartmouth has printed many pieces by students, alumni columnists and letter writers both for and against the proposed constitution. For younger alumni, graduating seniors and undergraduates who may not have had the time to follow this issue, it can be quite confusing.
I will be the first to admit that it may not be the most entertaining document you will read, but it's still an important one. The new constitution offers stronger class and affiliated group representation, all-media voting and greater transparency in alumni governance bodies.
I urge you to take part in shaping the future of your relationship with Dartmouth and support the new alumni constitution this fall when the voting period is launched (from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31). This is your school, too. It is especially important to let your voice be heard.
