I am running because Student Assembly needs help, badly. SA is lacking in both its membership and leadership. It needs to recruit more members and do more to educate and involve them.
The most important role of the Student Body Vice President is to ensure the functionality of the Student Assembly organization. We need to elect a leader who won't let things continue as they are. We need to elect someone with experience who is ready to make a huge difference in the way SA interacts with its members and the student population as a whole. Someone who knows how to take a struggling organization and make it great. This isn't just another year, another election. This election can be the students' opportunity to turn SA around. I am the only candidate who will make the changes needed in SA become a reality.
Student Assembly's failures are numerous. SA has failed to respond timely and effectively to the DDS changes, such as the Topside spending limit, that outraged the student body. SA hasn't been able to get academic departments to open more classes to NROs. The Assembly allowed Dartmouth to shut down ROTC. In fact, many students feel as thought SA doesn't do anything or that they don't know what it does. On the whole, many believe this election will not affect them in any way. If they elect the wrong candidate, they may be right.
A main reason SA is so ineffective is its lack of membership. For some meetings this year, SA wasn't even able to get a quorum. All SA needs to do is the basics: offer free food, advertise itself, welcome instead of ignore new members; SA needs to do a few small things to make joining seem Student Assembly seem like an attractive idea. An increased membership provides SA with a better connection with the student body, more ideas, more projects, and on the whole, a more effective Assembly.
Very few candidates have the experience and drive to make such changes occur. But I do. I will make lasting and important changes that will benefit the whole of the Student Body.
My leadership in other organizations in the past speaks volumes about my ability to be an effective leader:
"Josh did great things for himself and Cherry Creek FBLA. He took an inactive chapter and made it one of the best in the state." -Sean Robinson, former Vice President of Colorado Future Business Leaders of America
"Throughout my travels I have met hundreds of individual leaders. But Josh Jacobson's poise, passion, and intellect separate him as one of the elite leader's I've come into contact with."
-Brandon Rattiner, International President of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization
This election matters! It's an opportunity to create lasting change. Take advantage! Vote for the candidate who knows how to make SA great. Vote Josh Jacobson for Student Body Vice President.
