To the Editor:
The recent op-ed ("Too Much Sex" March 7) was nothing if not completely useless. Suggesting that sex-related problems would go away if students stopped having sex is like saying that there'd be less murder if everybody just stopped killing each other.
Sex, no matter what any individual may decide to do, is a reality of college life. Wishing it away, whether that's a good idea or not (probably not), is not going to actually improve anything. To actually solve problems like date rape and unwanted pregnancy, one must propose a solution armed with actual facts and assumptions based on reality, not simply utopian (or dystopian) fantasies.
Once the author decides to engage in a constructive debate about what actually happens on college campuses, as opposed to floating around in his own head, then maybe what he has to say will have value.
