To the Editor:
Thank you for a most well-reasoned and well-written editorial. The rhetoric surrounding this election was "dialed up" very high. It reminds one of the national political scene.
Dartmouth is blessed by the devotion of its alumni. When, however, devotion becomes increasingly divorced from the College of today, when the current students, their desires and realities are seemingly ignored while nostalgia runs rampant, then "devotion" can become something of a burden.
I have great faith in the Board of Trustees. I know that when the new Board members become further educated, when they feel the real weight of the responsibilities they have taken on and when they have the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned Trustees, there is good reason to hope that moderation will prevail -- at least in the rhetoric.
Thank you for stating well what many have wished to say.
