Do you know your rights? Devising and distributing Student Rights Cards is an example of the tangible projects I have completed in the past and which I will continue to pursue. A President needs three things: experience in Student Assembly, a proven record, and a vision for the future.
As for my record, with the Tsunami I had the opportunity to organize a timely concentrated campus relief effort. In addition to creating the Student Rights Cards I have set up and taught the free CPR and First Aid certification courses for students and S&S officers. Working with Proctor Kinne, I established the Committee on Campus Safety, which looks to improve S&S and student relations. I also created the Alumni Affairs committee so SA and the student body for years to come will have stronger ties with our alumni. I also reinstated the Diversity Affairs Committee in order to better ensure all students' voices are heard. I set up and participate in volunteer medical coverage every Wednesday night and on big weekends so Dick's House can expand its capacity and increase the level of medical care on campus, avoiding costly hospital bills for students. Additionally, I began holding office hours during the summer when I was SA President and we have continued to do so since then.
I've recently developed a comprehensive on-line campus calendar system to centralize and publicize all the varied events this campus has to offer. Check it out at http://dartmouth.dailyjolt.com. I'm also creating an on-line off-campus housing guide, which will be available any day now.
As President my plan is to increase student voice across the board including activities fee allocation, social space regulations, club sports, dining services, career services and parking regulations. Furthermore, I want every student to be able to create change, and realize that if they care about an issue, SA can make it happen. I will publish a student organization handbook covering event planning and funding. I will ensure that student organizations get what they want. For instance, I will ensure that Dartmouth becomes home to a seventh sorority immediately. My previous experience in SA is complemented by leadership roles I have held in other campus organizations including Ski Patrol, Dartmouth EMS, and the DCLU. I know the ins and outs of how club sports, DOC and COSO organizations operate firsthand.
You deserve a personal and professional Student Assembly and I pledge to bring it to you. Rather than simply a "vision" spurred by the start of elections, I have been working for the last three years to improve our college through material projects. Numbers don't lie and experience is hard to fake, and as such they set me apart from the other candidates.
