College Has Some Explaining to Do

To the Editor:

Abby Tassel's expose of her working conditions at Dartmouth is a harsh indictment of the College's administration. If her allegations are valid, then Dartmouth's leadership has some serious explaining to do ("Setting the Record Straight," April 15).

To think that the College sexual assault expert was encouraged to support other Dartmouth employees at the cost of good service and care to students is simply appalling. It's also enraging that in sexual assault-related administrative affairs, her opinion did not receive special attention. Even worse is the notion that she specifically complained and proposed ways to resolve these issues, only to be met with disdain and neglect.

I am not fully acquainted with Tassel's work at Dartmouth, nor do I know her personally. What I do know is that the College is going to have a much harder time holding onto dedicated, hard-working and qualified specialists after this debacle.

Tassel's resignation under duress is an embarrassment to the College, and Dartmouth must act immediately to address this problem. Our institutional credibility depends on it.
