Student Life Impediment

To the Editor:

Last week's article titled "College policy renders seventh sorority unlikely" (Feb. 3) illustrates how out of touch the current administration is with the needs of its students. If the Student Life Initiative truly was intended to make campus life more enjoyable, then the Wright administration should respect the freedom of choice that students have when choosing how to shape their undergraduate experiences.

Because of the counterproductive moratorium on establishing new Greek houses that the Wright administration has endorsed, 21 women now have to deal with the disappointment of not being able to join a house, and will miss out on all of the potential benefits that such a membership bestows. Additionally, the small number of houses gives rise to abnormally large pledge classes which, as the article stated, "have also placed burdens on those who actually received bids."

President Wright, in light of your alleged support of the Greek system, and your desire to provide students with an abundance of social options (read: Greek life is a legitimate social option), I challenge you to either defend or lift this ideologically based moratorium.
