Having a Safe Winter Carnival

To the Editor:

It seems that every time I read the police blotter, a student from a college other than Dartmouth is getting picked up for an alcohol violation. Why are "outsiders" consistently getting in trouble with Safety and Security or the Hanover police?

We all know that Dartmouth students take care of each other. We know how the system works, and we know how to work with it. But if we have friends visiting from other colleges who are unfamiliar with our system, they are much more likely to get into trouble.

As a DAPA and as a fellow Dartmouth student, I ask you to please look out for each other, especially with Winter Carnival this weekend.

Remember the buddy system of elementary school? It applies even more now when we can get into potentially life-threatening situations. When people are intoxicated, they have poor judgment and tend to do dumb things.

Be a friend and look out for your friends, because you will want the same treatment if the roles are reversed. This weekend, remember the words of my mom -- "Be safe and have fun!" It is possible to do both!
