Free Speech or Crime

To the Editor:

I must respectfully disagree with Rev. Crocker's comments on free speech by Dartmouth religious groups (The Dartmouth, July 13). Certainly, religious groups, like any other groups, must have the right to state their beliefs and opinions, and even to proclaim their superiority. However, it is not a mere "line of civility" which is crossed when any group threatens an individual or another group. The threat is a criminal act. It is not free speech, and it should not be tolerated by the College or the larger society.
