Bush Win a Boon for Terror

To the Editor:

Regarding "Axis of Evil Announces First Summit in Pyongyang" (July 15, The Dartmouth), Mr. Ahmad's suggestion that al Qaida has a vested interest in a John Kerry win in November is ludicrous. President Bush's war on terror has been a boon to terrorists everywhere. It has bogged us down in Iraq while allowing Afghanistan, the real threat, to fester with lack of attention and resources.

It has diverted our attention from the man who killed 3,000 people on Sept. 11, Osama bin Laden, and focused it on an evil man who nonetheless did not have the capability to attack us, Saddam Hussein. Furthermore, it has outraged the Muslim world, thereby recruiting thousands of new terrorists to kill Americans out of their hatred for our occupation of another Muslim country, the real reason Islamic terrorists hate us.

According to NPR, al Qaida is selling videotapes on the streets of Iraq showing Americans killing Iraqis and abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib -- the perfect terrorist recruiting tool. What more could al Qaida ask for? A John Kerry victory in November will mean a much-needed overhaul of the war on terror to return it to its purpose of actually making Americans safer -- not to mention that it is the only way we can restore ourselves to our much-needed position of respect in the world. Do you really think George Bush is capable of that?
