Credit Fraud Caper

To the Editor:

I am appalled at The Dartmouth's treatment of the credit fraud case ("'07 Pleads Guilty to Credit Card Fraud," May 11) -- a very sensitive and personal matter to all involved. While I acknowledge that it is a matter of public record, there was absolutely no need for the girls' identities to be published in the paper. The fact that both girls declined to comment simply highlights their wish for privacy. Calling the campus' attention to the individual identities of these girls was a reckless attempt at blatant sensationalism. We are all members of a small community and should not exploit issues that hurt us all. The story would have been just as effective without names published, and instead The Dartmouth has shown, yet again, how insensitive it can be to matters of personal importance.
