To the Editor:
Chris Langevin's letter to the editor (The Dartmouth, March 31) is off the mark. Marriage is a civil right. That much has already been established by courts. Langevin's claim that a same-sex marriage ban is not discriminatory because everyone can marry someone of the opposite sex is as valid as saying that the interracial marriage bans of yesteryear were not discriminatory. Let's take a look at interracial marriage bans through the Langevin's point of view. "Precisely any one person ..." (black or white) "is entitled to marry one other person, provided that other person consents to the marriage and is not underage, already married, consanguine ..." or of a difference race than his partner. "This rule applies equally to all and without discrimination ..." Is Mr. Langevin also supporting bans on interracial marriage?
