To the Editor:

In response to Sean Mann's column titled, "Keep the West Bank Open" (The Dartmouth, March 8) I have two points to make.

First, who are we to tell the Israelis how to protect their civilians from daily barrage of suicide bombers and terrorist infiltrators? Second, a life lost to a suicide bombing is not reverseable, whereas, the hardship caused to the Palestinians can be reversed.

If this fence will result in saving innocent lives, I for one could not care less how much hardship it will create for the Palestinians. If the Palestinians want to bring down the fence, let them force their leaders to crack down on the terrorist groups and confiscate all the illegal arms and bombs from the population. If the Palestinians want peace, they have to demonstrate that they are willing to make tough choices. So far they have failed and both sides are paying a heavy price.

Remember, the fence and hardships are reversible, a lost life is lost forever.
