To the Editor:
I am writing in response to the safety questions recently raised by the tragic ski accident of Christina Porter '06.
As a certified emergency medical technician with over seven years of EMS experience and a former training officer of the Dartmouth Ski Patrol, I want to assure the skiers of the Dartmouth community that they are among the safest in New England.
Under the leadership of Matthew H.T. Fulton '96 and the student directors, the members of the Dartmouth Ski Patrol are among the most highly-trained, professional and competent emergency medical care providers in the country. Their training is intense -- more intense than just about any other ski patrol in New England. And their commitment to safety is very real and very serious.
While every attempt should be made to improve skier safety when possible, the students of the Dartmouth Ski Patrol are, and should be, an integral part of that process.
