Don't Hesitate to Ask

To the Editors:

We love working with students! In Grace Chua's great article, "Despite internet's rise, librarians still occupied" (The Dartmouth, Feb. 16), students interviewed stated they tried to do their research on their own so as not "to bother the librarians" or "waste their time." Reference librarians' jobs are many and diverse, but the most important role they play is working with students to help them become skilled and effective researchers. From the most simple question to the most complex, we see all queries as an opportunity to connect and educate. Whether you are working in your room and want to dash off a quick blitz to "Ask a Librarian," or you're just starting your paper or you're working in the library and aren't sure where to locate a book you want, please ask! The reference desk looms large and we librarians standing within it may look engaged, but we are waiting for you! Reference librarians are interested, knowledgeable and committed to helping you succeed in your research. The sooner in your Dartmouth career you take advantage of your librarians' support, the stronger your research skills will become, for life!

We look forward to seeing you.
