Let Students In

Dear Editor:

Barring undergraduates from attending the Dec. 6, 2003, meeting of the Association of Alumni constitutes one of the more saddening and discouraging acts of administration authorities. As a member of the Student Life Committee of the Alumni Council and representing approximately 4,000 alumni of the Dartmouth Club of San Francisco, as the principal author during State Senate service of California's open meeting law, as a former editor of The Dartmouth during my undergraduate years and as a believer in Dartmouth College, it is difficult to imagine an act more contradictory of the principles supposedly inculcated in us by Dartmouth. One would think that risks to national security or perhaps even the College were at stake on December 6. Dartmouth alumni and alumnae should deplore and condemn the exclusion of undergraduates from any Alumni Association meeting at which the basic tenets of the Association's constitution are subject to alteration.
