Don't Shut Out the Students

To the Editors:

I attended the meeting of the Association of Alumni of Dartmouth College on Saturday, Dec. 6 and was surprised and outraged that students of Dartmouth were bared from entering and observing the debate and vote on the new constitution.

I saw that occuring before my own eyes and was deeply troubled.

This attempt to merge constitutions and eliminate the Association of Alumni, where all 62,000 alumni are equal, was designed to shut out 'non annointed' alumni from the process. Now it appears that students also are to be shut out and ignored.

What are these Association leaders and College employees afraid of?

I hope in the future, the media and students are allowed to observe, and that these meeting are not held only on week-ends when the College has flown in to Hanover and put up at the Hanover Inn at our expense, those councilors who stand to benefit directly from the proposed merger.
