To the Editors:
Mark Herman's article describing President Wright's Five Year Report (The Dartmouth, Jan. 9) reminded me of the "Ninth, three-year plan" from George Orwell's 1984. The idea that Jim Wright "never tried to impose regulations on the Greek system" seems farcical to me, and his claim to want to make the Greek system stronger was even worse. This is a kind of revisionist history that really would take doublethink to understand. I almost expected to read, "Comrades rejoice! Big Brother has won a great victory and delivered us into a happy, new life!" What's even worse is that, as in 1984, I have no way of knowing whether the college really is better off after these five years or not, other than the administration's claims that this must be the case. Like most undergraduates, I wasn't here. Maybe you enlightened folks at The D can help me out.
