Reevaluating Our Rubrics

To the Editor:

I echo sentiments concerning the cut of the Human Biology Program at Dartmouth. So often we hear about the value of interdisciplinary teaching and courses, yet a program premised on this work and bridging gaps between the sciences and humanities becomes an unfortunate victim to the budget cuts. When programs are evaluated solely on cost and not on comparative academic, intellectual and personal enrichment, we need to step back and re-evaluate our rubrics for evaluation. The Human Biology Program, for me, has been one of the most "real" experiences of my Dartmouth career, both in the classes they offer, the manner in which they are taught and the encouragement and excitement from the Program coordinators, Dr. Witters and Julia Wright.
