To the Editor:
With regards to the April 9 column "Just Let Tiger Play" by Robert Butts, sure, let's just let Tiger play. After all, who cares if women can't play at Augusta? It's tradition, right? Hootie Johnson is simply upholding the honor, the tradition and the history of golf. Nevermind the fact that this illustrious history also includes discrimination against minorities. Let's also ignore the fact that Tiger, in his early Nike commercials, rightly condemned the not so distant polices which precluded him from playing certain courses because of his skin color.
If Tiger were a true role model, he wouldn't ignore the Augusta debate simply shrugging it off as "the way it is." Tiger would speak out against discrimination based on gender as he spoke out against racial discrimination.
