Vote for Debate

To the Editor:

Tomorrow, the Dresden School District is having a vote on the continuation of their school's debate program. All Dartmouth students are eligible to vote and should go out to support the program. I have spent this term working with underpriviledged high school students in the inner cities of Boston and Philadelphia. I've noticed that the one difference between their success and failure is participation in extra-curricular activities. Self-esteem and energy stem from this participation. The debate program at Hanover High, which costs one-tenth of one percent of the school district's budget, provides this support for students in our backyard. Just as the community supported the Dartmouth swim team in our budget fight, we should all take three minutes out of our day to go to Hanover High and vote yes on the proposed issues. As oppposed to the Dartmouth community, the Hanover community respects public opinion and democracy. Make sure the students have the opportunity to remain active. Voting is tomorrow at Hanover High from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and all students over 18 are eligible.
