To the Editor:
Mark Yohalem made a serious mistake in his commentary, "The Liberal Reaction to Racism" (The Dartmouth, Jan. 15). In order to prove that Democrats have used race-baiting in the same way that Republicans have during political campaigns, he incorrectly states "...it was, after all, Al Gore who created the infamous Willie Horton ad in an effort to defeat Michael Dukakis in the Massachusetts primary."
Wrong. It was Republican George Bush, Sr. who successfully ran those ads to defeat Democratic Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis in the 1988 presidential campaign.
Mr. Yohalem's ignorance certainly made this reader question his credibility. I wonder which other of his "facts" were similarly pulled out of thin air?
