To the Editor:
Mr Stevenson seems to speak of orthodoxy and fundamentalism in the same breath. This is simply wrong. Fundamentalism, whether Christian or other, implies the paradox of an informed mindlessness. Orthodoxy often takes on surprisingly liberal theological expressions. Moreover, his insistence on an absolute distinction between those devoted to the person of Christ and those devoted merely to what most people would regard as social justice issues is unfortunate. Christ himself is heard in St John's gospel challenging his doubters to believe in the works that he does even if they cannot believe him personally.
