The Proper Diagnosis

To the Editor:

Although Dick's House clearly misdiagnosed the cases of pinkeye as viral and should have swabbed patients for bacterial infections in the first place, the staff was right to avoid giving antibiotics to students who merely requested them without proof of a bacterial infection. Overuse of antibiotics is a huge problem and those who use them when they don't need them may diminish the effectiveness of antibiotics for those who need the medicine at a later date. If you don't have a bacterial infection, antibiotics will do nothing for you, so although Dick's House should be held responsible for the misdiagnoses, they should not be held in contempt for acting wisely regarding the use of antibiotics.
