Greeks Inconsistent

To the Editor:

When a Greek organization comes under fire, leaders of other houses typically try to disown any connection or similarity to the beleaguered one. "Don't stereotype us" is the request we've heard over and over again.

Now it is "Greek Week," and we are being inundated with propaganda around campus about the "all-Greek GPA," Greek "civic participation," Greek "Fortune 500 leaders," etc.

Are we now to believe that the commonalities among the houses are only good? I ask, sincerely, that members of Coed Fraternity Sorority organizations distinguish for us whether they would like to be viewed as members of a system or as members of distinct houses. If it is the former, then I hope generalizations about the Greek system will be accepted with fewer complaints. If it will be the latter, then I hope the Greek Week campaign will discontinue its divisive campaign -- as in yesterday's advertisement in "The D" -- of identifying differences between Greeks and non-Greeks.
