Misrepresenting The Issue

To the Editor:

The reduction in parking fines seems to be nothing more than an administrative sleight of hand. The Dartmouth forgot to mention in its article, "SA helps to reduce parking fines," on May 2nd that prior to the fine reduction students paid $11 for a parking decal, and that now, in exchange for this so-called reduction, the fee will be increased to $25. Though it is respectable that the Assembly lobbied for fine reductions, it seems that now everyone who owns a car on the Dartmouth campus must pay for the irresponsibility of the few. Those who illegally park benefit while everyone with a car suffers. Before we give the Assembly a pat on the back and declare victory, we should all realize that a greater financial burden has now been placed on the back of every car-owning student.
