A Greek Advocate

To the Editor:

In the article of May 15th, "Sigma Nu surprises Greeks," regarding Sigma Nu fraternity's decision to secede from the Coed Sorority Fraternity Council, most of the other Greek leaders miss the point of the secession. They say that the secession will limit the house's voice and isolate its members. However, in the statement of their intentions, the brothers of Sigma Nu announced their desire for a new Greek Council. This Greek Council would be an advocacy group for the Greek system. That mission is in stark contrast to the CFSC which rolls over and plays dead every time the Greek system is challenged. The Ghetto Party, the Luau, the so-called "Cuban Party," "The Zetemouth:" in all these cases the guiltess wonders at the CFSC immediately capitulated and fed into the negative stereotypes of the system. In all these cases a true advocacy group would have defended its members. Sigma Nu is taking a bold step to create a body that will stand up for its members. This is what the CFSC should have been doing for years. They have failed and should be eliminated.
