Stebbins Out Of Bounds

To the Editor:

In the March 30th issue of The Dartmouth, Randy Stebbins' article "Hanover for the Few," commenting on the type of people who live in Hanover and what their priorities in life are, was completely one-sided. I didn't read one comment from a Hanover resident asking whether or not this article represented them personally. I can tell you, although I am one of these "dastardly" residents of Hanover, my husband, my children, and I are a working-class family. We struggle like everyone else. Just because we live in Hanover, doesn't mean we live a shallow $400K-house type of life. As a matter of fact, there are a large number of people, myself included, who oppose the Simpson Development because we feel Hanover has plenty of $400K houses and needs more affordable housing.

I don't disagree that Hanover is a unique community with a group of people who live a life of privilege, but these people absolutely don't represent the entire town. Oh, and where is it written that if you are well-off then you are a bad person and if you plow driveways for a living you are a good person? People shouldn't be judged by the town they live in or their bank account.

By the way, I didn't hear Mr. Stebbins moaning and complaining about the fact that he attends an Ivy League college in a lovely New England town!
