To the Editor:
I'd like to respond to the letters demanding derecognition for Zeta Psi fraternity for "The Zetemouth" exposure.
Although I find the publication offensive and degrading, I do not think the derecognition of Zeta Psi will resolve this problem. I believe that individuals and houses should be held accountable for their actions, but squashing the fraternities will not end the rampant misogyny that permeates our society. Offensive attitudes like those expressed in "The Zetemouth" sprouted from unhealthy attitudes outside of the culture of fraternities, outside of the culture of Hanover and out into what we alumni experience as the real world.
If you really are offended by what we have all read in "The Zetemouth" then instead of starting a fraternity witch-hunt, direct your energies to changing as much of our American culture of misogyny as you can. After all, there is life outside of Dartmouth and you have to live in the campus of the "real world" for the rest of your lives.
