The Dartmouth

Heartbreaking

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my enormous sadness and disgust at the recent news about Zeta Psi fraternity. As a member of the Class of 1976 (the first class to admit freshmen women), I experienced and witnessed acts of hatred against women that left painful scars. At that time there were members of the faculty and administration who looked the other way, and speaking out against fraternities was socially suicidal. Twenty-five years later, I urge all factions of the Dartmouth community to come together with the unequivocal message that there will be zero tolerance for behavior such as that demonstrated by the "brothers" of Zeta Psi. It must be clear: anyone who is capable of such hateful, degrading and dehumanizing behavior does not deserve to be a member of the Dartmouth community.
