A Letter of Gratitude

To the Editor:

We would like to express our gratitude to the Dartmouth community for your kind and thoughtful consideration of us in recent days. Our sadness is great, but so many people have done so many things to make our situation easier. Dean of First Year Students Gail Zimmerman, Dr. Turco, Rabbi Boraz, President Wright, Coach Sowell and the lacrosse program have helped by setting up the memorial service, answering the medical questions and helping with the logistics of getting Matty's stuff sent home and giving us a place for us during our visits to the campus.

These were great practical helps. More important to us was the concern and sympathy that came from them and so many of you. As parents we have always wanted three things for our children. We want them to be good, to be happy and to be loved. We know Matty was good. The service and our opportunities to meet with his friends, especially on Tuesday the 10th of April, showed us that he was happy at Dartmouth and had made friends who appreciated him for all he was and participated with him in his full and joyous living of life.

His death is a terrible sadness to us, but it is a great consolation and source of pride that his life touched so many, so positively.
