The Coed Council announced new elected leadership last Thursday, naming Phi Tau coeducational fraternity's Fred Hurley '01 as the president.
The council, which has two representatives from each of three coed houses, Alpha Theta coeducational fraternity, Tabard coeducational fraternity and Phi Tau, also announced Zeb Lowe '03, from Phi Tau, as secretary/treasurer and Nina Basu '02 from Alpha Theta as public relations officer.
Hurley said in an interview Sunday, "our main goal is to heighten awareness of coed houses and what they have to offer."
Basu, who is also the president of Alpha Theta, said the group willl attempt to increase awareness through closer ties with other Greeks and student organizations.
"One of the positives of the SLI is that it has forced Greeks to work together and be more unified," she explained.
Among other plans for the coming year, Hurley said that, in the future, coed rush will take place closer to that of other Greeks. Basu said the council would be trying to make internal programs, such as one on sexual assault, campus wide.
"We want '04s and those rushing late to know all of their options," said Basu.
Basu and Hurley expressed enthusiasm at the chance to work with the other officers.
"I have nothing but respect for Nina. She's involved and committed," said Hurley, a government major. He added that "Zeb, as an '03, brings a fresh approach."
The six members of the Coed Council elect officers amongst themselves. The three member houses of the Council each have a different system for electing delegates.
Lowe was not available for comment.
