Softball's season is extended

Coming off a 30-14 overall record (7-5 Ivy), the Dartmouth softball team didn't want to see its efforts go for naught. After Harvard ended all hopes of an Ivy League championship coming to Hanover, there was a chance that just that would happen.

However, the folks at the ECAC recognized a winner and selected the Big Green to participate in the ECAC Championships. The two-day tournament will be held May 13-14 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

The Big Green are seeded second out of four teams, and will face off against host George Mason (33-27) next Saturday in the second game of the day. Top-seeded East Carolina University (57-17) will battle Albany (27-8) in game one.

The tournament is double elimination, and all teams will play a second game on Saturday. The semifinals and championship game will be played on Sunday.

The Big Green are led on the mound by ace pitcher Christine Quattrocchi '03, who compiled a solid 20-5 record with a 1.09 ERA.

Kristen King '02 (.368 BA), Sarah Damon '02 (.343) and Cherie Comeau '02 (.311) have led the offense for Dartmouth.

"We're all really excited that we made it, because nobody wanted our season to end the way that it did on Sunday," Quattrocchi said. "I think that if we play up to our potential, we have a really good chance of winning the tournament."

Dartmouth's 30-14 record is its best in the program's six years of existence.
