Disagree Respectfully

To the Editor:

Never before have I been identified as hateful, never pigeonholed as having any similarity to a Nazi or a KKK member. Never have I seen people respond so violently to an innocuous proposition like allowing a woman to share her life story. Every day I encounter people who consider my faith to be absurd and delusional, and increasingly I am encountering people who have chosen to define Christianity as hateful because it proclaims an opinion that they do not like. We should not define people and their value or quality based on the extent to which they agree with us. I appreciate the concerns of the people who oppose Ms. Schneider's message and existence, but I also feel that they are becoming the very thing which they rail against. I find it rather remarkable that people with such a distaste for hate have responded so violently and bitterly to a proposition that should not threaten them. I entreat you, stop the anger, the bitterness and the slander. If you are concerned with this issue then please come and hear what Ms. Schneider has to say and withhold judgment until you have something to base it upon. The students in Voces are not trying to force any particular view upon people; we ourselves differ in our opinions about religious and moral issues. We have no agenda beside presenting a perspective to the Dartmouth community that is considered valid and relevant by many people but is not respected or acknowledged in this setting. In no way do we believe that homosexuals are any less valuable or worthy of respect than anyone else. Christianity teaches that we are all sinners who need the love and redemption of God. Please disagree respectfully and do not practice the hate which you deplore.
