To the Editor:
As a student at a school with a very large computer science program, I find it appalling that a professor would send so many students in front of the honor code committee. At MIT, where I am a student, students are trusted to collaborate on problem sets, within reason. Often, many students can end up with the same answers by working with TAs or in study groups. The students in CS 4 at Dartmouth should be given the benefit of doubt in this case. A professor has the responsibility to secure problem set solutions. If it is left insecure, the Professor should assume that students will see it. In this case, it seems that Professor Rex Dwyer was indeed trying to trap his students. At a prestigious schools such as Dartmouth, it is necessary for professors and students to hold mutual respect for each other. Professor Dwyer did not show this respect. All charges against students should be dropped.
