The Ivy Leaders Summit -- an event co-sponsored by The Ivy Council -- will collect 10 student leaders from each of the Ivy League schools to Yale University this weekend.
The summit, which has been in the planning for two years, will bring a diverse group of 80 students together to interact and discuss the need for integrity and responsibility in leadership.
Describing the event as a "unique conference," Amar Dhand '01, co-chair of the summit, said the event "makes sure that the leaders of the tomorrow are meeting today."
The conference organizers and participants are also hoping the event will establish a tradition of future Ivy League summits and help student leaders explore the topic of what direction future leaders should follow.
"Hopefully we'll inspire future students leaders to do great things now and not wait until they're in the 'real world,'" Jorge Miranda '01, Dartmouth's head delegate to the Ivy Council, said.
Four different panels on law, politics, science and business have been organized, all of which will revolve around the theme of ethics and integrity in leadership.
Participants in the summit will be allowed to attend two of these panels. The panels will be followed up with small seminar groups with a maximum of 10 people each discussing leadership issues.
The conference has invited prominent speakers including College Provost Susan Prager, Professor of Biological Sciences George Langford and Yale University President Richard C. Levin.
The selection committee -- comprised of seven Dartmouth students -- looked for vision and action from the 387 students that applied from across the Ivy League.
"We were observing whether they [applicants] had a vision of leadership and could back it up with responsible leadership action," Dhand said.
Miranda said he was looking forward to the "incredible individuals" that will be getting together at Yale.
Dhand reiterated similar sentiments.
"I'm extremely excited," he said. "The individuals coming to this are some of the most remarkable people I will ever meet."
The students representing Dartmouth are Jaimie Paul '00, Dan Chang '03, Aly Rahim '02, Amy Schnitzer '02, Jesse Foote '01, Chance Hill '01, Lauren Scopaz '00, Lea Sevcik '00, Tim Lesle '01 and Ryan Smerek '00. Miranda will also attend the Summit as Dartmouth's representative to the Ivy Council.
