The steering committee on the Social and Residential Life Initiative will meet in Hanover this weekend to begin discussing what recommendations the group will make to the Board of Trustees.
Committee co-chair and Trustee Peter Fahey '68 said the committee will begin work on the actual report, although he was not able to say when it will be finished.
Previously, steering committee members have told The Dartmouth they hope the report will be ready for presentation to the Trustees and the Dartmouth community by the end of Fall term.
Committee co-chair and Trustee Susan Dentzer '77 said the main task for the weekend is "to decide what to recommend in all areas" of the Initiative.
In addition, the committee will be meeting with students, some of whom have specifically requested time with the committee, Fahey said. Student Assembly President Dean Krishna '01 and Vice President Margaret Kuecker '01 will be meeting with the committee today.
The committee will meet from midday today to midday Sunday, Fahey said.
In addition, Dentzer said the committee will be reviewing the three panels on the Initiative that were held in the last two months. They include September's panel which featured Dentzer and Fahey, Monday's panel for first-year students and Tuesday's panel with the student representatives to the steering committee.
Dentzer said the committee will be considering whether the panels introduced new ideas or topics that need to be investigated.
The format for these meetings has not yet been determined, Fahey said.
Dentzer said the committee will not be meeting with groups of freshmen students unless they express to the committee an interest to do so.
Dentzer said she felt the Class of 2003 members were more interested in getting information about the Initiative more than giving input to the committee. This interest was met by Monday's panel, she said.
Committee members have adopted a policy of confidentiality for their meetings with students and do not share the content of discussions among themselves or with members of the student body.
Krishna and Kuecker will be sharing their opinions today about the forum with the student representatives to the steering committee, Kuecker said.
According to Jaimie Paul '00, president of the Coed Fraternity and Sorority Council, no one will be speaking to the committee on behalf of the Greek system this weekend.
Steering committee member Jesse Fecker, a graduate student in chemistry, said at Tuesday's panel that the committee estimates it has met for over 150 hours since the committee formed last May.
The steering committee is officially known as the Trustee Committee on the Student Life Initiative.
