JoJo Adofo-Mensah '01 of Kappa Kappa Kappa fraternity and Alex Wilson '01 of Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity were elected summer president and vice-president of the Coed Fraternity Sorority Council last night.
About 50 members of the Greek system gathered in Collis 101 to elect the executive positions of the CFS for the Summer term.
The issues that candidates most discussed in their speeches included further responding to the Trustees' Initiative, creating a stronger link between the Greek system and the Student Assembly, advertising the positive contribution the Greek system makes to the campus and having a fun summer.
In his speech, Adofo-Mensah said that he did not see the summer as being a particularly important time with regard to the Initiative. Instead, he said the focus should be on having a good time.
He also said that during the Summer term, the emphasis should be less on the Greek system as a whole and more on individual houses.
Adofo-Mensah takes the position formerly held by Jaimie Paul '00. "I've been looking forward to [being President] for a long time. This should be a really fun summer," Adofo-Mensah said. "I'd like to invite everyone to come out."
"Our job is to make sure our houses are in good shape for the fall," he added.
Several people spoke on his behalf and praised the great pride that Adofo-Mensah took in his work and his commitment to the Greek system.
Adofo-Mensah was the Programming Liaison for the CFSC last year.
Wilson has had extensive experience with the Student Assembly and said he wants to prepare the Greek system for whatever happens in the fall, "good or bad."
Wilson said he saw Summer term as a good time to participate in new activities. "In the summer, it is a much less regimented time. It's a good opportunity for people who have never enjoyed the Greek system," he said.
Wilson's duties will include heading the Judiciary Committee, which handles alcohol policy violations and other breaches of school rules.
Lindsay Reich '01 of Sigma Delta sorority and Andrew Hay '01 of Zeta Psi fraternity were elected programming liaisons, Kathleen Heist '01 of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority was elected Treasurer, Eric Etu '01 of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was elected secretary, and Bradford Crevier '01 of Phi Delta Alpha fraternity was elected events manager.
According to Andrew Louis '00, Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity president, who chaired the election, almost every house was represented in the voting body. Only presidents of houses or their representatives were allowed to vote.
In total, 29 students ran for the eight positions.
