To the Editor:
In the article "National Greek Organizations Respond to Threat,"(Friday, February 19th), Psi Upsilon's executive director, Mark Williams, is reported as saying that the international fraternity would allow the coeducation of Psi U. However, the article failed to note a very important fact -- Williams did not say the international fraternity would support the mandated coeducation of Psi U. Although our constitution technically allows for coed houses, the process of becoming coed can only occur with the consent of the local chapter. Williams told the officers of Psi U's Zeta chapter (Dartmouth) over the weekend that "[the decision] will be made by the Zeta chapter and its alumni. The international fraternity will support whatever decision you make." Because coeducation is not consistent with the values and traditions of our brotherhood, the brothers of Psi Upsilon have decided unanimously to remain a single-sex fraternity. The international organization will fully support that decision.
